Before launching into my special 33rd installment, I suppose I should get the news of the week out of the way.
Biden bit a child, no one knows whose cocaine it was in the White House, a bunch of people were born, an alligator ate someone, and the government got permission to keep running rampant over the First Amendment for at least a little bit longer.
There – that’s done.
As to the fascination with 33, it is an interesting number that has played a larger role in history and culture than you may suspect. Shall we look at the myriad ways it pops up?
·        Jesus was crucified when he was 33
·        There are 33 bits of your spine
·        It’s on the back of every Rolling Rock bottle
·        There are 33 degrees of Masonry
·        It’s a palindrome
·        The temperature at which water boils (Newton scale)
·        Records (for those who remember them) spin at 33 RPM
·        It’s a big deal in Buddhism (comes up a lot)
·        It’s New Age master/angel number (whatever that means)
·        The first Pope John Paul served for 33 days
·        The longest baseball game was 33 innings
·        Every 33 years the lunar and solar calendars sync up
·        If 13 was not available, it was the jersey number I chose
·        It’s a pretty good age to be – theoretically old enough to not be so stupid but not too old to not be able to do fun stuff
·        John Belushi and Chris Farley both dies when they were 33 (maybe the prior bullet needs a re-think)
·        John Wayne Gacy killed 33 (maybe more) people
·        It’s how long it takes to get frostbite at zero degrees
·        John Cale’s silent composition is 4 minutes and 33 seconds long
·        And if you use it on a lottery ticket today, I get half
