I am genuinely at a loss why Target is being targeted by conversative people across the nation. I’ve seen the news about “tuck friendly” swimsuits and I think it’s great that Target is taking such a strong public stance on the second amendment and a woman’s ability to protect herself.
If you are a would-be bad guy and saw a woman in a bathing suit alone by the pool or on the beach, it would not even occur to you that she could have a gun concealed on her person - stealthy sexy safety: sounds like a win-win-win for American women!
Give me a second, I just got an email…clicking the link…circley thing turning…voila! https://nypost.com/2023/05/25/megyn-kelly-blasts-target-over-tuck-friendly-womens-swimsuits/
Oh – I stand corrected.
It seems that Target – like Bud Light – simply does not understand that they’re not special enough to take absurd political stances and expect their customers to remain loyal. As I noted earlier, Bud Light is the liquid equivalent of “Meh” and Target has many competitors selling the same stuff in the same price range, quite possibly literally across the street.
As I noted previously:
Other good brands can get away with offending and irritating their customers. For example, if Pliny the Elder beer inked a deal with say, well, maybe not Hitler, but someone or something seemingly really silly/bad (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals or People for the Edible Treatment of Animals or Junior Outlet Patrol: Baby’s First Electricians Kit or The Kamala Harris Academy of Oratory or the Red Brigade or the Illuminati or whatever) no one – and I mean no one – would bat an eye.
And I hope everyone who can has tried a Pliny since. It really is that good.
This episode does bring to mind, though, a Greg Gutfeld joke from some time ago when a Muslim group wanted to build a mosque at/near Ground Zero in Manhattan. In order to create cross-cultural harmony, Gutfeld opined that it would be good idea to open a Muslim gay bar across the street with the possible name of “Suspicious Packages.”
Here’s a link (the only one I could find is posted on the left-wing Media Matters for America site – I guess they thought it was a bad idea…) of him discussing the idea: https://www.mediamatters.org/glenn-beck/beck-gutfeld-names-islam-friendly-gay-bar-next-ground-zero-mosque-suspicious-packages?page=51
Continuing with the hidden theme, Joe Biden’s censorship regime went so far as to censor Joe Biden. It seems the absurd and patently un-American COVID social media censorship demands were so broad that even the President’s own Instagram (he doesn’t look like a 15-year-old girl to me, though it may have something to do with virtual hair sniffing…) account was “throttled” because it was posting COVID stuff: https://www.uncoverdc.com/2023/01/14/the-6-most-shocking-recent-revelations-of-government-censorship/ .
Continuing with the “you can’t say that” theme, it seems that progressives now think jail is good. From Donald Trump to Daniel Perry, the incarceral call has gone up across the wokesphere. It seems when it suits their political needs, the stalwart cocksure (see above) left goes from this https://www.prisonpolicy.org/reports/pie2023.html and this -
to this -
and this -
Continuing with the ludicrous hypocrisy theme, I heard an interesting (and true) story about a woman during the pandemic. Her mother was gravely ill – dying actually - in the hospital but she was barred from seeing her because she was not vaccinated (she had health concerns.) She went to the hospital, told her story, and begged to be let in – no luck.
The next day she went back and asked again and the hospital said no so she said okay, she’d get the shot. The hospital was happy and they actually gave her the shot while she was waiting in the lobby – it just took a couple of minutes.
As she got up to leave – she was deeply leery of the vaccine but she knew enough about them to know they were not instantaneous – she was stopped and told she could go right up to see her mother.
They just needed her to get the shot – they needed her to comply - to get in the hospital even if the shot doesn’t work - https://thomas699.substack.com/p/we-are-all-unvaxxed
She was taken aback but went on up and made absolutely sure not to remind the medical staff that the shot DOES NOT WORK IMMEDIATELY.
And people wonder why the public trust in society’s institutions have crumbled…
Finally, it’s Memorial Day tomorrow so I thought I would end on a note of thanks and with a little story.
When I was little I used to fetch drinks when grown-ups were over at the house (I started bartending at fund raisers and other parties we had at the house when I was about 8) and I remember one day – Sunday after church I think – my father and a few of his friends – all WWII vets or thereabouts - were chatting and they were laughing and telling stories and one of them started talking about a friend and it ended up with him not coming home. The story trailed off and for a few moments the only sound to be heard in the room was the clink of ice against the glasses…and then someone made a loud joke, my father asked me to arrange refills and all was back on track.
But in that nearly ephemeral reverie of grief I learned more about decency, sacrifice, and bravery than I have since.
Grain of Salt time – I obviously did not learn those lessons at all well enough and it must be noted that my father joined the Army Air Corps, promptly crashed at least one (maybe two) Piper Cub canvas trainers into a lake in upstate New York and was immediately transferred to intelligence. No, really.
Have a great Memorial Day and thanks for subscribing!
