Bret Weinstein is a smart guy.
He first came to public attention when he dared to question the wisdom of banning white people from the campus of Evergreen State College (he taught biology there) for the day.
Suffice to say, that was deemed evil and it set off a series of student protests/riots/physical altercations demanding he and his wife – Heather Heying – be fired.
This email by Weinstein – an avowed liberal - sparked the chain of events:
“There is a huge difference between a group or coalition deciding to voluntarily absent themselves from a shared space in order to highlight their vital and underappreciated roles….and a group encouraging another group to go away. The first is a forceful call to consciousness, which is, of course, crippling to the logic of oppression. The second is a show of force, and an act of oppression in and of itself.”
He and heather left, sued, got a settlement, and now host the (pushed off of YouTube by its censors) Dark Horse podcast - https://www.bretweinstein.net/darkhorse-podcast - and continue to write and research in their fields. The being pushed off YouTube bit was caused by their discussions of the manifestly manic and mindboggling pandemic response
Last week, he sat down with Tucker Carlson to discuss the currently being considered modifications to the World Health Organization treaty and by-laws and regulations that will allow the WHO to – on a whim – to destroy national sovereignty as we know it. In other words, if the WHO decides you have to lockdown, you have to lockdown.
This is serious, that’s why it’s been so underreported as the WHO is “talking about restricting basic human rights essential for a democracy to function.” For a look at the issue, do read this: https://brownstone.org/articles/why-does-the-who-make-false-claims-regarding-proposals-to-seize-states-sovereignty/.
The interview was, shall we say, very very good and while The Point is still a relatively small fish I thought it important to share:
A longer version of the interview can be found here: https://tuckercarlson.com/the-tucker-carlson-encounter-bret-weinstein/
And if you would rather read a transcript of the interview – with a few pithy introductory comments by Jeffrey Tucker of the Brownstone Institute - you can do that here: https://brownstone.org/articles/reflections-on-the-bret-weinstein-interview/
Either way, do please take a look. I’m not sure its importance can be underestimated, particularly in the light of comments like these: https://www.eceee.org/all-news/news/covid-19-pandemic-is-fire-drill-for-effects-of-climate-crisis-says-un-official/
The coronavirus pandemic is “just a fire drill” for what is likely to follow from the climate crisis, and the protests over racial injustice around the world show the need to tie together social equality, environmental sustainability and health, the UN’s sustainable business chief has said.
“The overall problem is that we are not sustainable in the ways we are living and producing on the planet today,” said Lise Kingo, the executive director of the UN Global Compact, under which businesses sign up to principles of environmental protection and social justice. “The only way forward is to create a world that leaves no one behind.”
And she said that in June, 2020.
Speaking of stupid, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is threatening to do everything in his power to remove Joe Biden from Florida’s presidential election ballots.
DeSantis’ campaign – and his own performance during it - has been a disaster. He has joined Jeb Bush and Meg Whitman in the hall of fame of really expensive really bad campaigns. Over-consulted and underthought, DeSantis has proved he’s not ready for prime time.
And I thought he was ready and that a DeSantis V. California Gov. Gavin Newsom was the election the country needed - https://thomas699.substack.com/p/the-nation-needs-newsom-vs-desantis .
I still think that because the only high point of his campaign was the debate with Newsom.
Prior to the first GOP debate, DeSantis was already in trouble but then this happened:
The really irksome element is that DeSantis did not have to run – in fact, should not have run. He ran gambling that legal issues would take down Donald Trump and he would be the man - the Trump policies without the Trump drama man – left standing.
Oops.
DeSantis should have waited until 2028. His Florida term ends in 2026, he could have spent two years road-testing his campaign and building support based on his excellent record in his state. If Trump is elected in November, he is actually really legally barred from running for re-election, putting a well-prepped DeSantis in the driver’s seat for the nomination (same can be said for Newsom, by the way.)
As the proverb promoting patience goes:
If you sit by the river for long enough, you will see the body of your enemy float by.
But now he will somehow have to wash the stink of this campaign off before he can even hope to contend in 2028. And that’s too bad.
Now this Biden threat seems like a last gasp political Hail Mary because it is. It’s also, again, stupid, and plays right into the hands of the Democrats.
This tit-for-tat twattishness (sorry, but the word is aptly alliterative) is pointless, damaging, and unnecessary, and it will have no meaningful impact.
It has been reported DeSantis will drop out if he loses Iowa.
He will lose Iowa and this is not the best way to go out.
But this is a fun way for this column to go out – I typically don’t meme, but these caught my eye.
The first one is actually honestly real and sums up the “are you kidding me!?!” aspect of the pandemic response:
The second is not real but could be:
And here’s a bit of true fact fun:
Thanks for subscribing!!
I'll listen to this twice. Bret's wife, Heather, is just as smart and pretty feisty. Thanks for this.
