There are times in life when one can only shake one’s head and wonder if a person is just plain stupid or intentionally evil.
To that end, The Point is introducing a new occasional feature called, obviously, “Stupid or Evil?” in which we look at the recent events and ask that very question – is it - or are they - stupid or evil?
As part of this series the comments will be left open to all so you are encouraged to add your opinion, voice your vote, call me an idiot, or even suggest a topic or two.
We’ll kick off the series with what I believe to be an easy one – Dr. Anthony Fauci and his shepherding of the pandemic response.
Is Fauci stupid? Technically not. He did graduate med school, after all, and spent years clawing his way through the bureaucracy all the way to the top, racking up award after award - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Fauci .
In his eventual position he controlled literally billions of dollars in federal funding and could make or break a career on a whim; while not inherently better at his job than others (ask AIDS activists about his initial bungling of that epidemic) he was definitely vastly more powerful than anyone else.
Despite being a member of various medical subgroups, his background involves getting his MD, doing two years as a resident internist and then immediately going to work for the government.
That leaves the other part of the question – is Fauci evil? Considering the trail of destruction he has left in his wake and WHY he did what he did, the answer is probably yes.
As with his response to HIV/AIDS, Fauci the bureaucrat immediately went down the “everyone can die from it” panic road. He emphasized HIV transmission risks amongst low-risk demographic groups, just as he did with COVID as a way to induce an intense fear in the general public.
He did so, it seems, because he cannot abide the idea that humans are discrete individuals who behave differently, have different health concerns, or – particularly devastating to children - happen to be a different age and therefore at a lower risk.
It is this monolithic view of the public - his refusal to step outside the ease of the bureaucratic response – that points to the deep-seated contempt he feels for other humans.
The other aspect that must be considered is that Fauci blatantly lied to the public on countless occasions, purposefully lied about the initial cause of the pandemic in order to conceal his involvement in the (most likely) process of its creation, and knowingly lied about exactly who was most at risk from the virus.
By amplifying the fear, Fauci specified the death.
So, in this first installment, the answer is: EVIL.
Stay tuned for more chances to play Stupid or Evil!
Yep, evil. So many people were pivotal in botching the pandemic response. I would assume most of them were just being idiots but teasing out who the evil ones were is important because hopefully and eventually they'll be held accountable. Either way I think this will be a fantastic series, thank you!
Agree; I’m going to enjoy this series. Wish I’d thought of it. Do Francis Collins next, since he was Fauci’s partner in crime (of censorship and more).
