Talk Until Your Red in the Vote
Tough Ask for Trump, But He Must Let Joe Speak and Speak During the Debates
In 2020, Donald Trump and Joe Biden debated twice.
Neither went terribly well for Trump, or so the media told everyone they possible could.
In the case of the first debate, they had a point. In the second, not so much.
It seems that Trump has agreed to debate Biden on his terms – no audience and on CNN and ABC and in June and September.
At the very least, Trump should have gotten one “friendly,” as it were, for saying yes in exchange for one maybe in the middle of packed Oklahoma Sooners’ stadium on Fox. But, c’est la vie.
Much of the punditocracy is saying Trump got played – tough networks for him and he definitely feeds off of an audience. But the concept benefits both candidates in that it will keep RFK, Jr. off of the stage.
True, CNN has said – much to the chagrin of both Biden and Trump – that Kennedy will be allowed to take part if he meets the typical “Commission to Stifle Actual Debates” standards: on enough state ballots to make it mathematically possible for him to win and polling at 15% in four different polls.
But Kennedy will not hit both those marks by June. Some polls have shown him hitting the 15% support number, but he will not be on enough state ballots by then, so he’s out.
That means no RFK Jr. talking about covid, no RFK Jr. talking about the deep state, no RFK Jr, talking about the need for independence from the current DC uniparty.
While the uniparty and deep state jabs clearly hurt Biden more – he’s their figurehead right now – the covid response issue damages Trump. It is very simple – 90% of the former Trump voters who back RFK Jr. now do so because of the disastrous pandemic response launched by Trump.
For Biden, the test of the debates is very simple: stay upright and do not ask how the dead relatives of the moderators are doing.
Whatever “help” he is given will need to have its decimal point moved. The black eye, pinned pupil side-effects of whatever that substance is should be ignored. The Biden team must take the risk of over-doing the dosage, especially considering the fact that the press will never ever ask why Biden looks like a meth-addicted fly-fishing lure-tying mountain of chaos just below an eerily false calm surface.
That is why the Trump team is asking for a drug test before each debate. No matter what you think of him, not even the collaborationist media has even hinted that substance abuse has ever been an issue for Trump and even the press has not bothered to lie about that. Of course, it does mean that Trump is the way he is because that’s literally him, chemical free.
For Trump, oddly, the danger in the debates is not what the press will say. Jesus Christ Himself could return in the middle of the debate, stand between the two, and say “My Dad says vote for Trump” and somehow the media would turn that into some sort of right-wing extremist religion improper election interference.
Immediately, Christ’s Facebook page would be scoured for potentially “fascist” – or at least non-inclusive - beliefs and in the “spin room” afterwards the spokeshumans for the deep state DC uniparty would loudly wonder if the presence of the Savior is really unfair and maybe prompted by Vladimir Putin and/or anti-vaxxers and conspiracy theorists.
Trump could offer a new and accurate general solution to the “three body problem” and he would still be called a hulking, sexist, evil, stupid lump of lies.
So what Trump needs to do is, and this goes for any politician in a debate with a clearly loopy opponent and mental, shut up.
Trump tends to run his mouth, and in 2020 he did cutoff moments when Biden seemed to be about to go medieval on the truth.
It is incredibly difficult to let your opponent talk without correcting them, but Trump must simply let Joe talk.
And talk and talk and talk and anything – literally anything – could then come out of his mouth.
Biden will be trained to answer questions – do you think he’ll know them before hand? Shame on you!! – in the expected amount of time. In other words, given 90 to 120 seconds and even the most addled amongst us can keep it together for that short amount of time, even if we have to jam a thumbtack into our palm to stay focused.
But beyond that? Biden will say something that even the moistest Trump hater will have to admit that, um, maybe Biden’s finger on the button is not a good idea.
Because Biden will do that. In 2020, he did, or was about to do so, and Trump opened his mouth and saved Joe. More than a few times.
To succeed (at least with those watching – ignore the chatterati) Trump needs to shut up, listen, and after Biden has been asked about transportation only to go on/off for five minutes on a lie about how he drove a train with his best friend Corn Pop the conductor every day and just look over incredulously and say “really?”
Really?
Donald, let Joe lie, let Joe kermublekruffle, let Joe be Joe.
And you might just win.
thanks and you're right - should have added " much better chance in september" line
Hi, Tom, you and I are in substantial agreement. I've got a post scheduled for Monday that delves into it. I might disagree with you about Robert F. Kennedy's ability to make the stage, but you're probably right. He might or might not, but he may have the Federal Election Commission as an option for intervention. Keeping him off is why Biden chose an early debate - he may not be so lucky by Sept. 10.
