Yep, agree with your picks Thomas. I wish the gambling thingy would just go away but as you state “the idea of literally putting a casino in everyone’s pocket raises all sorts of addiction issues” is a concern I now share as I have shed many of my libertarian instincts where impulsive whims become rights when they are nothing more than impulsive whims being pushed as freedom.
The arts funding one is so bizarre but does tug at the altruistic heartstrings from the usual suspects. Just what we need, more militant murals depicting fists with pencils. The CA public has been completely oblivious to the impact of Gov approved AB101 (CA Ethnic Studies Curriculum) that adopts the ideology of intersectionalism and categorizes students into powerful oppressors and disempowered victims, defines them based on inborn color-based identity not individual characteristic. Some of what proposed is a list of 154 influential people of color that didn’t include Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., John Lewis, or Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall. It does suggest including the promotion of violent revolutionaries like Pol Pot, the communist leader of Cambodia’s Khmer Rouge. Mr. Pot was responsible for the murder of a quarter of the Cambodian population during the 1970s. The final approved bill while toned down a bit remains an insidious effort to indoctrinate CA youths into a culture of hate. I have no doubt that any art funding will be used to support that BS.
A couple of months ago I attended a zoom town hall with assemblyman Chris Ward and CA ED chief Tony Thurmond. These two narcissistic identarian’s spent the bulk of the time in a sickening display of self-congratulatory performance art that included trashing Ron DeSantis policies relative to Education. These two where obsessed with Florida. Tony and Chris firmly defended what they call their inclusive approach to education praising the CA ethnic studies curriculum but avoided any discussion relative to the tragic student performance as shared in the links provided by Thomas (thank you Thomas). Performance standards in school districts serving my part of CA along the border were already a tragedy. That was pre-pandemic. We have a chronic systemic problem down here with corruption. Little things where former San Ysidro district officials misspent school bond funds, double paid vendors spent $45 million on an ill-advised land purchase and fulfilled few promises made to voters who approved a $250 million bond measure. Other little things like the previous investigation and scandal of Sweetwater Union High School District (my district) that resulted in prosecutors charging four than current and former district officials with felonies. And why break tradition because once again, it has been recently discovered that the Sweetwater Union High School District used their COVID-19 relief funds to pay their employees to alleviate the deficit in their payroll instead of prioritizing every dollar to go towards students and COVID-19 safety measures that have allowed schools to open across the nation. Over $6 million that could be used for better protection and safety measures went into the pockets of administrators that made the call. South Bay Union did the same thing. So now they are calling for more art funding? Why do parents keep voting for these guys and the school boards? WHY?
The bright spots Thomas Points out are Lanhee Chen and while I believe the CA Republican Party is brain dead, I am hopeful that Lanhee represents a potential roadmap for success they will/must consider. One race I would pay attention to is the 49th congressional district. Democrat Mike Levin whose ads where nonstop abortion and more abortion now finds himself in a tight race with Republican Brian Marott. Mike Levins new adds now say nothing about abortion but a noticeable pivot to inflation. Mike must be in panic mode because POTUS will be in town this week to campaign with him. While I try to avoid the politics of ethnicity, I believe it’s time for the CA Republicans to find some solid right-wing Latinas to get rid of Juanito Vargas. He is my rep and is a man, who stands for nothing and has accomplished nothing.
Finally South Bay is quickly becoming a sanctuary for Marxist. They are no longer running from that alignment with some proudly displaying endorsements from a Brooklyn Based Working Families Party a proud bunch of nihilistic Marxists. Things are so bad that Republicans are endorsing Democrat David Alvarez.
I apologize for the extended post, but Thomas (the Point) analyses was significant, and I pray voters are paying attention.
