One quick note - if this post does not appear in its entirety in your email - got a “too long” warning from Substack just go the site and it will all be there.
This is the one hundredth issue/episode/installment of The Point’s About Last Week…feature.
First, I want to thank every subscriber for reading and thinking, even if you are absolutely sure I’m wrong.
Second, I would like to take the opportunity afforded by this momentous occasion to specifically thank my paid subscribers and remind them to keep commenting and, if they are ever of a mind, that they may submit pieces of their own for consideration of publication at pointsubmit@gmail.com .
By the way, anyone can submit story ideas or questions through that email addy as well.
Third, since I do not do this terribly often, I would like to ask the free subscribers to consider moving to paid status. It is terribly appreciated and you get to comment and submit and, most importantly, you get that wonderfully warm feeling of being a very good person because, by definition, all of my paid subscribers are very good people (free subscribers are mostly very good people…lol.)
Fourth, I wanted to remind folks that I have two sites – The Point and Checkmate. I do typically, but not always, cross post between the two, with the more directly media-focused pieces going up on Checkmate first. But do feel free to subscribe to both (the submission availability noted above is also available to paid Checkmate subscribers, fyi) and if I could ever get an email back form Substack support I would be able to offer a discount for subscribers to both.
Anyhoo, there have actually been a few more subscribers in general recently so I thought it would be fun to take a look back at some of The Point’s greatest hits for those who may have missed them.
And there will be a test to see if you really do read them.
The devious art of fact checking:

The pandemic:

Semantics stuff:

Science things:

California:

And a few socio-political pieces:

Well, I’d again like to thank all of my subscribers for their continued support – tell your friends and follow https://x.com/PointofBuckley if you wouldn’t mind (don’t worry – I don’t tweet too much…)
And instead of an epigram, I thought this might be a bit of fun:
Thanks for subscribing!!
