Thomas, if you know the person who filed the records request then you also know why LADPH closed their social media comments. I hope you don’t mind if I compete the connection for your readers: It’s because Ferrer was trying to bring back the mask mandate for the county in July 2022, citing rising cases. The blowback was severe and uncovered Ferrer’s conflicts of interest (note the dates on your first two referenced Globe articles) as well as video of L.A. County-USC hospital doctors who said no one was hospitalized with severe covid at the time. It seems the department didn’t like the angry responses on their social media posts so they disabled all comments a few weeks later.

When the new policy was questioned, the department responded that they would answer any questions submitted privately such as by Twitter DM. I tried that twice and they did get back with answers. Unsatisfactory ones, but whoever was writing the messages was quite friendly.
